The Leicester Longwool has a deep rich history that dates back as
far as the 1700's, when it was first developed by Robert Bakewell, a
man credited with advanced livestock farming/breeding techniques who
changed the way livestock were farmed and bred. Today, it is a rare
breed that has less than 700 registered animals in the United States
and fewer than 2,500 worldwide. The breed was reintroduced to the
United States with the restorative efforts of Colonial Williamsburg in 1990.
